TOUR DATES

$IGN OF 4 TOUR

23rd November 2002

$ign of 4 tour page now set up, but still more information and reviews to add.

19th November 2002

Spent Sunday night at JBs in Dudley for the $ign Of 4 gig, and it was awesome. Small crowd, 60-70 by my count, but that made it the closest you're ever likely to get to having Phil gigging in your front room (unless you're extremely lucky, rich or both of course).

They played 5 or 6 tracks off Dancing including the title track, beautiful friend, driven and overload.. two tracks off Choccy Box (Jerusalem and Muddy's Gold), Lights Out, Too Hot To Handle and two encores of Mystery Train and Shoot Shoot. I'm sure I've missed some, but this is off memory (tried to grab a set list off the stage but got on there too late). The whole band were tight, and was a very enjoyable gig..

Oh, promised I'd also mention that Chris Maloney (bass) has a new CD out, or about to be released. Sounds cool.. very mellow rock sort of album with a few Beatles influences thrown in. Support band, Candyheads, deserve a mention... very enjoyable.. new single out now.

I'm trying to find time to put together a page for the tour and a proper review but going slowly because of work, in the meantime however, the dudley 'work in progress' page is at ufo.dave-wood.org/dancing/dudley/dudley.html which has loads of photos from the gig.

Basically, if you live in the UK and haven't bought a ticket for a $ign of 4 gig near you yet.. DO IT!

13th November 2002

Both the $ign Of 4 and Legends of Rock tours start today in the UK at Southampton and Aberystwyth respectively. Both tours should provide excellent nights out!

11th November 2002

Barry Sparks update concerning Legends Of Rock tour.

6th November 2002

Interview with Jeff Kollman at the Strangers site.

5th November 2002

Been away for a few days so several updates:

Michael Schenker has had to withdraw from the Legends Of Rock Tour due to a dislocated shoulder.

In addition the London venue has changed to Shepherd's Bush Empire, tickets for the Academy will still be valid.

Also don't forget that the Rock And Blues CD and DVD are on sale in a few days, which includes 4 UFO tracks.. Let It Roll, Rock Bottom, Midnight Train and Doctor Doctor. I will try to write a review of it in time for the release.

$ign Of 4 have added more dates to their imminent UK tour, see tour dates page.

Zoom Club have released a 4 cd 'box set' of previously unreleased live MSG material from the 80's, "Reactivate", available through all good record stores (Amazon.co.uk certainly stock it, Amazon.com will import it). I don't want to clog up the Latest News with too many details so will set up a separate page for it in the next couple of days. Although these are essentially bootlegs the sound quality is excellent.

Had an email from Joe Kleon regarding the recent Pete Way tour:

"The live recording of the 10/4/02 Cleveland show is mixed and mastered. I am hoping Pete will be able to release it sometime soon. I recorded and mastered the show, and it was mixed at 609 Recording, in Bedford, Ohio, a few weeks ago. The live CD was mixed and produced by Pete Way, Don Depew (609), and myself. I think it absolutely sounds great and captures the energy and excitement of the show and the material.

hear excerpts of a radio interview I did with Pete here: This includes an acoustic version of "Hole1" that he did during the interview!

http://www.joekleon.com/peteway.html".

24th October 2002

The Legends Of Rock tour now has the welcome addition of Frank Marino to the line-up.

From Detritus: "Perris Records is proud to announce the signing of Mad Margritt. Their new 9 track CD will be titled 'New Sensation' and will feature legendary vocalist Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent, Michael Schenker) on one track. Release date November 12th."

17th October 2002

'LEGENDS OF ROCK'

JACK BRUCE
and
ULI JON ROTH
in
'SPIRIT OF CREAM'
a unique performance of classic Cream

MICHAEL SCHENKER

GLENN HUGHES

and very special guests to be announced

'LEGENDS OF ROCK' is the name of a unique three-hour classic rock extravaganza, hosted by ex-Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth. Due to the phenomenal success of his 'Legends of Rock' headlining appearance at the Castle Donington festival in 2001, the decision was made to take the 'Legends' format out on the road. With an All-Star line-up of incredible musicians from rock history, 'Legends of Rock' promises to be one of the most exciting live events performing today.

As well as performing music from his highly acclaimed 'TRANSCENDENTAL SKY GUITAR' album, Uli will be playing guitar in 'SPIRIT OF CREAM' - a celebration of the music from the original '60's supergroup - alongside legendary CREAM bass/vocalist and founder member JACK BRUCE and renowned ex-JETHRO TULL drummer CLIVE BUNKER. 'SPIRIT OF CREAM' features astonishing renditions of classic Cream songs and will be the closest, most authentic representation of the true Cream spirit since 1969. An unmissable event for all fans of the golden age of classic rock.

MICHAEL SCHENKER will be displaying the impeccable technique and characteristic tone that made him a true guitar legend with SCORPIONS, UFO and MSG. Hugely influential and highly respected, Michael will also be joined by Uli Jon Roth for some stunning twin-lead guitar renditions of classic Schenker/ UFO/ Scorpions material.

GLENN HUGHES, the former DEEP PURPLE legend, is known simply as ''THE VOICE OF ROCK". A huge talent - and the possessor of one of the most incredible voices in rock history - Glenn will be joined by Uli for some amazing versions of Deep Purple material.

20th August 2002 part I

In defence of Shrapnel I've been reminded that the Shrapnel release date has always been September 3rd and that it was Amazon and CDNow that got the date wrong!

Pete Way will be on a solo tour later this year around small clubs in the US. Dates and details can be found at his official site petewaytoohottohandle.com. Word is that he will be accompanied on guitar by Walt James (guitarist off Pete's solo album Amphetamine). First date August 30th.

17th August 2002

Seems, as has become traditional with UFO/MSG, release date has been put back to September 3rd.

12th August 2002

Just had 3 weeks of solid teaching and media superstardom (anyone hear me on Radio 1?!) but hoping to get back on top of emails and updates over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile Battttty has been busy (and has been blackmailing me to put these links up) so check out her interview with Keith Slack and her Force It page. These guys are a brilliant UFO cover band who are currently promoting their new album 'Jack Of Diamonds'.

Eight days until release of 'Sharks'....

4th August 2002

22nd June 2002

Release of new UFO album, 'Sharks', has been confirmed as 2nd September (see On The Rocks, credit to Peter for spotting it!).

20th June 2002

Just a quick entry to say there hasn't been any updates for a while because there hasn't been any news! I now think it's very doubtful that the new UFO will appear in the shops in June....

15th May 2002

I'd heard a rumour of a June release for the new UFO, "Sharks", but quite frankly thought it was too soon. But no! A June release has been set and a track listing can be found at the MGAB site.

European leg of the Dokken tour (Barry Sparks) kicks off in Liverpool tomorrow.

I've had various variations on this, but this one is from Detritus:

"L.A. fusion metalisti, Cosmosquad, have been invited to participate in 'Guitar Day', a 1-day guitar extravaganza that will take place June 13 at Club Alpheus in Rome, Italy. 'Guitar Day' will mark the first ever overseas live appearance for the band whose new album, 'Squadrophenia', is out now in Europe and North America and will see a Japanese release via Big M.F./Zain on May 25.

Closer to home, Cosmosquad will be at the Baked Potato, 3787 W. Cahuenga Blvd., Studio City on Monday, May 13 for a double header; Chris Maloney will be filling in for bassist Barry Sparks who has prior commitments with Dokken, starting May 16 in Liverpool, England. Similarly, drummer Shane Gaalaas will be off to Japan in June with superstars The B'z, also featuring bassist Billy Sheehan, whose national summer tour includes a co-headline appearance with Aerosmith in celebration of the upcoming Soccer World Championships, the world's biggest sporting event.

In related news, Cosmosquad guitarist Jeff Kollman has just finished recording and producing an album with L.A. singer/songwriter, Rick Monroe. The Monroe band, featuring Kollman, Chris Maloney, and Speak No Evil's Charlie Waymire on drums, will be doing a free show at Musicians Institute, 1655 McCadden Pl., Hollywood on Wednesday, May 15. Showtime is 8:30pm. The set will include 4 songs each from Monroe, the Kollman catalog, and Maloney's just released 'Control' solo album.

Also, while talking of official sites, Gary Barden's site has been done up and can be found at www.garybarden.com (sorry for the delay Alan) and also Paul Gray now has an official site at www.paulgraybass.co.uk.

For those emailing, I know that the MSR site is no longer MSR.. it has been taken over by a company that specialises in picking up domain names that people have forgotten to renew. No news on a replacement.

Lief Sundin is set to appear on a new album due out in September from Now and Then. With the title 'United - We All Come Together' it is dedicated to both victims of September 11th and the innocent people of Afghanistan. Artists set to donate tracks to the albums include Tesla, Night Ranger, Ken Tamplin, Stan Bush, Legs Diamond, Lizzy Borden, Haven, Doro, Bonnie Tyler, John Norum and a host of others. Lief is due to appear on a 'Swedish All Stars' track (SFK).

The new Dokken album (featuring Barry Sparks on bass), "Long Way Home" has now been released.

More news very soon including an interesting forthcoming DVD release.. watch this space!

21st March 2002

OK, some of this is old news to these pages but Squadrophenia is such a cool album it's worth mentioning again:

"Cosmosquad's SQUADROPHENIA has been licensed to Mascot Records for a European release on April 25, and Big M.F./Zain for a Japanese release on May 25; it will be out in North America on guitarist Jeff Kollman's own label Marmaduke Records, which also recently reissued Kollman's debut solo disc SCHIZOID. SQUADROPHENIA features guest performances from guitarists Chris Poland and Vinnie Moore. In related news, the album Kollman and drummer Shane Gaalaas recorded with UFO vocalist Phil Mogg, under the name Stonetowne, is due out "by early summer." Gaalaas has also "signed on" with The B'z and will tour this summer along with Billy Sheehan. And not to be outdone, bassist Barry Sparks will tour Europe with Dokken starting May 16 in Liverpool, England. See http://www.jeffkollman.com or contact ayresrockmgmt@prodigy.net for more." (from Detritus)

Also.. "Keyboardist Jon Lord has left Deep Purple, and Don Airey will step in." (Detritus)

From BWBK.com:

"Vocalist/guitarist KELLY KEELING (BLUE MURDER, MSG) has inked a deal with Mascot, and will record a new album for the label this spring with a release expected in late summer."

Graham Bonnet Official Website (Bonnet Rocks) is still down due to a server move, but news is that the new Impellitteri CD wil be finally released on March 21 in Japan. Other release dates to follow.
