Detritus (Tim Wadzinski): ------------------------- -As I said last week, I recently spoke to vocalist David Van Landing. David first hit the semi-big time with his band Mannekin back in the late 1980s, and then he went on to join Tony MacAlpine's band briefly and then he replaced original singer Midnight in the power/progressive metal band Crimson Glory in 1991. After touring for their '91 album STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL, the Crimsonites opted to change their name and direction, and two years later they officially became known as Erotic Liquid Culture (ELC). About a year ago they recorded their debut self-titled album and it's been sitting in the can for about six months; the band is now set to begin seeking a deal. In the meantime David has been touring with the revamped Michael Schenker Group, replacing vocalist Leif Sundin who sang on last year's MSG album WALK IN THE SAND. A new MSG live album with David is currently being considered. David filled me on what happened with Crimson. After SAB was recorded, the band (Jon Drenning - guitar, Jeff Lords - bass, Ravi Jakhotia - drums) felt Midnight couldn't hold up live so they parted ways. David stepped in and they did a short tour in '91 that ended at Foundations Forum, and then decided to put Crimson to rest. A number of new names, including Zen, were considered for a while but eventually ELC was settled on. In the meantime Jon, Jeff, and Ravi started up a side band called (The) Crush with another vocalist and recorded an album. Jon also is involved in sports media, having appeared on ESPN-2 and written books on the NFL draft. But the Crimson flame hasn't burned out completely--a Japanese company has offered the band a deal and Jon and Jeff are currently writing songs for a reunion album with Midnight. This should probably see the light of day sometime this year. But even with all these side projects and outside interests, ELC remains the main focus for all the guys. Stay tuned to SFK for more on ELC and my review of their album, but for now check out their homepage: [http://www.azbiz.net/elc]
